2007-08 Smart Fiesta Conference
CHAMPIONS.

Wednesday, 20 August 2008
Record crowd of 22,902 witness Kings’ coronation; Menk & Tubid Finals MVP
Rising above tough challenge and extreme adversities, the Barangay Ginebra Kings are back on the throne, once again reigning supreme in the import-reinforced PBA tourney.

Ginebra completed an epic triumph while handicapped by injuries, waylaying Air21, 97-84, Wednesday night to bag the 2007-08 Smart Fiesta Conference before a delirious record-breaking crowd of 22,902 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The walking wounded of coach Jong Uichico survived an acid test, overcoming a 2-3 deficit in the best-of-seven series to reclaim the crown they won in 2004.

It's Ginebra's eighth championship in all but this one should rank among the best, considering the trials and adversities gone through by coach Jong Uichico and the brave Ginebra gang.

"Every championship means a lot whether it's your first, second, third or what. But this one is really special. It's hard to explain how we won the series with all the injuries and tough challenges we faced," said Uichico, winning a second crown in four conferences with the ball club before a crowd never seen since the glory days of Crispa and Toyota in the league’s early years.

"The players deserve all the credit for not giving up. We could have easily given up when we lost Jayjay (Helterbrand). We could have easily given up when Mark Caguioa got injured. And we could have easily given up when the others also got hurt. But the players didn't," Uichico also said.

With practically everybody already playing with aches and pains, Tubid and Menk seized the moment and led the team to the epic win. The two were rewarded by being named Finals co-MVPs.

"Eric (Menk) has just redeemed himself. Tubid, meanwhile, really showed a big fighting heart as he returned to play in the series straight from injury. Bumalik sya noong kailangang-kailangan namin siya. Bumalik sya ng walang practice," said Uichico.

Menk, defying Father Time, and Tubid, sidelined for six weeks by a dislocated ankle, combined for 43 points and 17 rebounds in the winner-take-all contest.

Chris Alexander, the tournament Best Import, was saddled by early fouls but still played a key role, finishing the contest with 19 rebounds, 16 points, four blocks, one assist and one steal.

"It was a gamble on my part to keep him on the game despite five fouls. What I wanted was for him to make it tougher for Steve Thomas to score. Kung locals, madaling-madali para kay Thomas umiskor," said Uichico.

As it turned out, the Kings held the entire Air21 team scoreless in the last
4:27 of play.

"My players have matured. Still, they were not yet ready to face the impact of what the Ginebra crowd brought to the game," said Air21 coach Bo Perasol.

The injury bug hit Ginebra up to the final game of the series with Junthy Valenzuela hurting his left leg in the third quarter.

Valenzuela wasn't able to return but the Kings didn't waver.

Earlier, the Kings pounced on the Express at the posts with Alexander and Menk combining for 18 points as Ginebra took the half at 49-46.

The Ginebra gang could have established full control right in the opening half if not for an atrocious 12-of-23 free-throw shooting against Air21's 4-of-4 perfect clip.

Though badly beaten in rebounding, the Express kept the game close also with a better three-point shooting. Gary David, Arwind Santos, Nino Canaleta, Ranidel De Ocampo and Marvin Cruz combined for six triples with the Kings accounting for only three.

After the Kings built their biggest lead in the first half at 28-21, De Ocampo and
Santos fired a three-pointer each in an 11-4 salvo that tied the count at 32-all midway through the second period.

The two teams engaged in a fiery exchange until Valenzuela beat the buzzer with a floater, giving the Kings a three-point lead at the turn.

Tubid was the lone Ginebra player who did well from the charity lane in the first half, knocking in all of his five charities. He provided Ginebra instant offense coming off the bench, leading the team with 12 points in the first 24 minutes of play.

Santos led all scorers with 13 points in the opening half marred by three technical infractions.

Getting possession after the opening tip, Caguioa quickly brought the ball down court and dished off an assist to Paul Artadi for the first basket of the contest. (NC)

The scores:

Ginebra 97 – Tubid 22, Menk 21, Alexander 16, Caguioa 13, Valenzuela 10, Artadi 8, Crisano 4, Pacana 3, Mamaril 0, Salvacion 0, Reavis 0.

Air21 84 – Thomas 24, Santos 19, David 18, Canaleta 8, Billones 6, De Ocampo 5, Cruz 3, Arboleda 1, Kramer 0, Intal 0, Espinas 0, Sotto 0, Se 0.

Quarterscores: 26-21, 49-46, 72-63, 97-84.

Mr. Deed's Poem

From the Movie Mr. Deeds. Staring Adam Sandler (My Idol) & Winona Ryder.

Hard to breathe, feels like floating,
so full of love, my heart's exploding.

Mouth is dry, hands are shaking,
my heart is yours, for the taking.

Acting weird, not myself, dancing around,
like the Keebler elf.

Finally time, for this poor shlub
o know how it feels to fall in love

I'm Down to FIVE.

If your wondering what I mean in the title of this post.
I'll tell you the reason later. First, let me tell you a brief history of my dirty habit. : )

My dirty, nasty, unhealthy vice or whatever you call it. Started back when I was still in 2nd year in high school. I was 14 years old that time. Influence by friends & my brother. I started a unhealthy vice that is very unhealthy for me and the people around me. And I was having a hard time to stop my self from doing it. This vice became a daily habit for the past 10 years. I tried many times to end it. But, it was so addictive that I can't stop. But now, I'm happy to say that I'm almost free form this unhealthy habit.

This Unhealthy habit that I'm telling you all is actually about my smoking habit. I'm proud to say to you all that I am down to "FIVE" sticks of cigarette a day. Where, before I smoke 1 pack of cigarette or more a day. Some people may say its Impossible. But its true. I'm almost free from this vice of mine.

My goal is that before the year ends. I am a SMOKING Free man. Not just for my own well being but for the people around me as well.

Dealing with falling in LOVE.

I was browsing in the Internet this morning. And stumbled upon this site that caught my eye with its interesting post. And I'd want to share it to you guys. :D

How to Deal With Falling in Love

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Steps
  1. Love can make you happy, or it can cause you pain. Loving a girl that loves you back is the goal of every relationship.
  2. Decide if the girl really feels the same as you do, before you go all out, and become too emotionally invested.
  3. Build the relationship first. Some girls do not like a person to be too overpowering, or too 'giving'. They might just take advantage of you, and then break up with you. You might also overwhelm someone and that will scare them off and burn out the relationship.
  4. Get to know each other, talk and laugh, and share stories about family, pets, books, and movies you enjoy. It is always better to fall in love with someone who is also your best friend.
  5. Enjoy each other, and date, and if, in time, you fall out of love with her, or she with you, accept it. There is really nothing you can do to change it. Enjoy the moment, and then go on to the future.

Tips

  • If you really love that girl, try to get her back. Do not beg, just talk to her, and see if there is a chance of getting together again. If she says no, then accept it and go on.
  • Do not let the circumstances from a past love make you fearful of loving someone new.
  • Truly, there are 2 forms of "love." A strong, long-lasting one and a short, but initially just as strong love. Before you make the decision that you really do love this person, give it some time and a lot of thought.
  • Understand that with love comes a chance of getting hurt, but you will know if it is worth it by how you feel. No one ever forgets their first love, but they also can't wait.

Warnings

  • Girls/guys might be playing games with you. Some enjoy making a guy love them, so that they can break up with them. Be aware of this. Listen with your ears, and not your heart, and be patient for your true love...
  • If you sense that she is not being truthful, then accept your feelings. Get out and meet someone else. But don't "just" do it. What if you're wrong? Be sure.

First Blood. Brgy. Ginebra Gin KINGS.

Wohho!!! Brgy. Ginebra Gin Kings drew first blood on last night game at Ynares Center fot the 2008 SMART PBA Fiesta Conference Championship Series. Leaded by Mark "The Spark" Caguioa and Chris Alexander "the great". Winning the first game 106- 96.

CHRIS Alexander may have had some early jitters in his first PBA Finals. But those proved to be short-lived.

And the rest of Barangay Ginebra, especially Mark Caguioa, certainly did not have such attack of the nerves as the Kings tripped the Air21 Express, 105-96, Wednesday at the start of the 2008 Smart PBA Fiesta Conference championship series at the jampacked Araneta Coliseum.

Caguioa finished with 22 points, offsetting Alexander's woeful 2-of-8 free throw shooting and leading the predominant favorites of the approximately 17,000 crowd to the blazing start in the best-of-seven series.

It's not that Alexander, normally a 54 percent free throw shooter, let himself be affected by his stints from the stripe. He still wound up with 18 points, a game-high 25 rebounds and five blocked shots.

Five of his seven fourth quarter points came off his three offensive rebounds, each one proving crucial in helping the Kings stymie the Express' comeback bid from as much as a 44-64 third quarter deficit.

“That's what we've been saying about Air21 as a team,” said Ginebra coach Jong Uichico. “We're up by 18 or 16 points and then all of sudden they'll score five straight points. They're really a very streaky team.”

Air21 whittled the deficit to as low as 90-96 on a hook by Steven Thomas, still 2:07 to go.

Then Alexander canned a charity off his offensive rebound and then tipped in a Jayjay Helterbrand miss to make it a nine-point game, only 1:20 to go.

The initial anxious moments over, Uichico finds additional comfort in the win.

“It's very important. It gives the burden on the other team to make the adjustments,” he said. “At least 1-0 ka na. We can also still make adjustments and malaking bagay iyon, when you're up.”

Air21 coach Bo Perasol admitted there are indeed some tweakings needed.

“I think those aspects of the game we knew they were going to beat us with became exactly those,” said Perasol, referring to fastbreak and second chance points, which Ginebra translated into concrete figures of 22-12 and 24-8, respectively.

Perasol also admitted his Express, first-timer in a PBA Finals, failed to overcome their own nerves.

“Nagkaroon ng feeling na eto pala 'yung Finals, kaya parang just going through the motions,” he said. “We had a good start but we failed to sustain it. I think we will be better the next game.”

The fact Alexander outplayed Air21 counterpart Steven Thomas, who had 21 points and 16 rebounds, also gnawed at Perasol. “He has to do a better job,” he stated.

Ranidel de Ocampo's 22 points, to go with seven rebounds, led the Express, who also drew 19 points and 14 rebounds from Arwind Santos but only 14 points from Gary David.

David and Santos chiefly alternated at Caguioa, but with little success.

Air21's defensive rotation was generally thrown into shambles when the likes of Junthy Valenzuela, Helterbrand and Eric Menk each had 12 points, leaving Perasol's charges at a loss on who to concentrate chiefly on.

Menk highlighted his best game in the conference by canning two charities in the first minute of the third period to earn his niche as the 59th member of the league's 5,000-point club and his jumper from the left corner gave Ginebra its biggest lead at 64-44, 6:56 in the period.

Despite its lapses, Air21 still proved to be like a bad dream that won't go away for Uichico.

With De Ocampo leading the way, the Express brought the deficit down to 82-89 before Thomas joined in and helped make it a six-point game.

Ginebra guard Paul Artadi was instrumental in Ginebra's charge from a 15-19 deficit and into a 25-19 lead, but pulled his left hamstring during a fastbreak play in the last five seconds of the first period.

He did not return but Uichico, who already lost Ronald Tubid to a dislocated left ankle in the quarterfinals, prays he will be fit enough for Game 2 Friday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

“Hopefully, he's healthy enough for the next game. Nakagawa na kami ng paraan ng wala si Ronald, then here comes Paul. Baka we have to find another way na naman,” said the soft-spoken Ginebra chief tactician.

The expected ruggedness in the series first surfaced when Air21's Homer Se gave Rafi Reavis a hard foul at the 10:57 mark of the fourth, exacerbating the Express' plight as the adjudged flagrant foul penalty one only led to two free throws that made it a 83-67 Ginebra lead. (NCo)

The scores:

Ginebra 105 – Caguioa 22, Alexander 18, Valenzuela 12, Helterbrand 12, Menk 12, Reavis 8, Artadi 7, Pacana 6, Mamaril 4, Salvacion 4.

Air21 96 – de Ocampo 22, Thomas 21, Santos 10, David 14, Arboleda 9, Se 6, Billones 4, Canaleta 1, Kramer 0, Cruz 0, Sotto 0.

Quarters: 25-19, 50-39, 79-62, 105-96.

Falling in Love

"I Thought I Must Give Up on Life"

I thought I must give up on life
And turn into a stone;
The desert wind quite suited me:
No heart, no mind--just bone.

I thought it would be dumb to try
To want something again;
Wanting turns to need, and then
Transmogrifies to pain.

I laughed at people still in love
Who trusted someone's word;
To make my happiness depend
On faith seemed quite absurd.

I lay alone and wonder-struck,
Sleepless in my bed,
Still numb, still dumb, still ice, ice cold,
Not knowing I was dead.

And then you came and shone upon
My meadow full of snow,
And saw the flowers only love
Could recognize and grow;

And made me feel so beautiful
I shed my cold, cold skin,
And opened up my heart to you,
And, fearful, let you in.

And now, my dear, I am in love,
With all that I've been through.
I know the worst of all the world,
And I believe in you.

Favorite Song of Czy2.

The Weather Girls

Humidity is rising - Barometer's getting low
According to all sources, the street's the place to go
Cause tonight for the first time
Just about half-past ten
For the first time in history
It's gonna start raining men.

It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men! Amen!
I'm gonna go out to run and let myself get
Absolutely soaking wet!
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah!
It's Raining Men! Every Specimen!
Tall, blonde, dark and lean
Rough and tough and strong and mean

God bless Mother Nature, she's a single woman too
She took off to heaven and she did what she had to do
She taught every angel to rearrange the sky
So that each and every woman could find her perfect guy
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men! Amen!
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah!
It's Raining Men! Ame---------nnnn!

I feel stormy weather / Moving in about to begin
Hear the thunder / Don't you lose your head
Rip off the roof and stay in bed

God bless Mother Nature, she's a single woman too
She took off to heaven and she did what she had to do
She taught every angel to rearrange the sky
So that each and every woman could find her perfect guy
It's Raining Men! Yeah!

Humidity is rising - Barometer's getting low
According to all sources, the street's the place to go
Cause tonight for the first time
Just about half-past ten
For the first time in history
It's gonna start raining men.

It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men! Amen!
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men!

Song for the day.

Kimi Ga Suki Da To Sakebi Tai

From the Hit Anime Slam Dunk.

Bright sunlight on my back - started my run in the center of town
my shoulder was hit, like always, by (you)
you were preoccupied - yet there was no reason
your arm was not linked to mine

and before I realized it, you stole my eyes when I looked at you
I'm not letting go (since?) there's no trembling - CRAZY FOR YOU

Chorus:

I want to shout (that) I love you - let us try to change tomorrow
I want to smash this freezing (moment in) time where I'm not with you
I want to shout (that) I love you - so let us walk out bravely
I want to receive and hold onto those warm emotions

at the floor - opposite me at the eventful table
I was lost with you looking casually at me
feels like I'm in love with you yet it's like I'm being toyed with
can't lie no more because of my pounding heart

when it's time this frustrating friendship will change
I want acceptance I want assurance - I TAKE YOU AWAY

I want to shout (that) I love you - let's go and leave everything (behind)
I'll find the words to touch your heart
I want to shout (that) I love you - tonight, I won't let you go home
let's bring the days of gazing to an end
I WANNA CRY FOR YOU

Repeat Chorus

I WANNA CRY FOR YOU

Song for Today.

Reaching Out
by Gary Valenciano

What must I do to make you understand
You mean everything to me
Don't have the strength to say
Give this heart of mine a chance
And maybe then you will see...

Refrain:
I'll do anything, do anything that you tell me
I'll be there, I'll be there if you need me.

Chorus:
Reachin' out to you
Do you feel it too
Lovin' you is all I wanna do
I'm completely sure
I've never felt this way before
When I smile you know that there is something more.

What must I do so I can make you see
The light that shines in my eyes
You brighten up my day
You even help me find my way
I wish you're always by my side

Refrain:
And I can't stop, don't know how to stop thinkin' of you
And I'll do anything, do anything to be near you...

Chorus:
Reachin' out to you
Do you feel it too
Lovin' you is all I wanna do
I'm completely sure
I've never felt this way before
Deep inside you know that there is something more.

Deep inside you know that there is something more.

A Short Love Story and A Long Definition of Love.

A Prose of Love

One day a boy and girl were walking on the beach. And as they walked they were holding hands, actually clasping hands. They were just leisurely walking not talking to each other but their bodies were moving in perfect rhythm, their steps in single cadence and their hands swayed in harmony, their eyes and minds in a dreamland. They continued walking on the seemingly endless stretch of sands unmindful of the heat of the sun and the pounding surging tides and the shouts and the laughter and the chatters of the crowds and the bays of the beasts and the chirps of the birds and the whatever and the whichever around and along the beach. they continued walking without talking; they were dreaming the day.

As the evening shadows came they stopped walking and sat on the sand and started to chat. Then the boy looked up and started counting, one, two, three . . . the girl interrupted him and asked him, “What are you doing?”

Boy: I’m counting the stars
Girl: Why?
Boy: That’s how many times I love you!
Girl: You cannot count all the stars!
Boy: Right, I love you in a countless ways and if it takes me forever to count the stars, forever my love for you will be!

The girl squeezed the hand of the boy, then scooped a handful of sands and started counting, “Five, ten, fifteen . . .” The boy interrupted her and asked “What are you doing?”

Girl: I’m counting the sands! And as many sands are there in the whole world that’s how far and how long I will love you!
Boy: It will take more than a life time to even count a portion of the sands in this beach alone.
Girl: Even death will not stop me counting my love for you!

The boy hugged the girl tightly. They looked at each other and they were both amazed at their vows of perfect love. The boy continued counting the stars; the girl went on counting the sands. They fell asleep.

They were dreaming the same dreams together. They were floating in the air, suspended in space somewhere between the stars and the sands. Holding hands they flew around leisurely alternately looking at the stars and the sands. Then they stopped and sat in the cushion of the cloud and started talking:

The Philosophy of Love

Girl: You know that my parents and relatives and even my close friends are against our love relationship. But that would not hinder me from loving you. Only death can make me separate from yoo.

Boy: Don’t say that. Our love will survive all obstacles. Even death cannot take you away from me.

Girl: My parents are planning to take me away to America where they hope to make me forget you amidst the million faces and thousands of places and sandy beaches and towering buildings that seem to reach to the stars. And when the inevitable day comes, I would rather die, kill myself. Death and Hell would be a better choice for me than life in this world separated from you. And when I’m in Hell, I would look for a scorching beach and count the blistering sands. That would keep me busy and forget the pains of the burning fire around.

Boy: If you commit suicide and go to Hell, I would make sure that I will go to Heaven. And when I’m there I will continue counting the stars until I find a shooting star, catch it and ride it down to snatch you from Hell and then we will soar like an eagle back to Heaven.

Girl: But that’s impossible! You cannot go down to Hell. You cannot leave it once your there and we will both be scorched perpetually. No, better for you to be up there and let me just suffer alone. After all it would be my own doing that I would be down there. No. I cannot allow that.

Boy: Why not? You said that you rather kill yourself than live but apart from me. What about me? Can’t I choose to be with you wherever you are, even in Hell! That’s unfair! You don’t have the monopoly of the philosophy of love. If you don’t like this option, and don’t like me to suffer with you then there is another alternative. Take the advice of your parents and go to America. We are separated but at least I’m happy you’re not suffering in Hell.

Girl: You don’t understand! I said I cannot live here on earth separated from you. I’d rather kill myself and in Hell than live here away from you. Going away, leaving you is not an option to me, it’s not my choice; it’s their choice not mine. There’s a big difference between the two. I’d rather suffer out of my own choice than suffer by the choice of others. I have my own life to live. It’s a gift to me by God. Nobody can take away that gift from me.

Boy: Okay, I get your point. But try also to understand mine. You love me, I love you. We have a common factor, love. So why worry my being with you even in Hell. Love cannot exist alone. Love needs love, and that’s us. How can there be love if we are separated as you try to philosophize earlier. There is no love between us unless we are together. See we have the same philosophy of love. You cannot bear to live if we are separated, but you rather stay in Hell and I in Heaven. We are separated and this time perpetually. So where is love in your choice? As I said you don’t have the monopoly of choice. If your choice is different from mine how can there be love? See the point?

Girl: But my love is for you not for me! That’s why I sound inconsistent even to the point of being misunderstood with my stupid philosophy. Maybe I’m really stupid, stupidly in love. Anyway, history is replete with stupid lovers - - - classic examples are Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, Samson and Delilah, David and Bathsheba, Anthony and Cleopatra - - - well I think the world exists because of stupid lovers! Without them where would we be?

Boy: Okay, okay. But my love is for both of us, that’s why I’m persistent even at the expense of being branded a romantic idealist - - - Odysseus and Penelope, Cinderella and Prince Charming, Romeo and Juliet, the Beauty and the Beast and a host of unheralded love fantasies - - - because of them the world does not only exist but becomes a garden of hope that nurtures mustard seeds of faith, and faith makes the impossible, possible!

Girl: Alright, I give up, you win. I will wait for you in Hell. But there’s just one more question that’s bothering me. How do we fly out of Hell?

Boy: Simple! We will soar on eagle’s wings. You see how the eagles roam the air? They don’t fly like other birds. They ride the air, they soar, they glide. They use the natural pneumatic highways of hot and cold lanes. Like the eagle we will use the hot lane and that’s not a problem. Hell is full of hot air and so there is no other way except up and since the temperature is so high that in less than a split second we’re out of Hell that nobody would even notice you missing nor even remember you were there, as if you were not in Hell at all. Then we will be in deep space gliding and this time we will hitch a ride in Elijah’s chariot on our way to the kingdom of Heaven never to be separated again.

Girl: Wonderful! One last question. How can you come to Hell without being noticed by Satan and His cohorts?

Boy: Double simple!! Because my love for you is true and I come from the Kingdom of light I am shielded by the principal elements of eternity - love, truth and light. First, these three do not and can never exist in Hell, therefore I am invisible to Satan. Second, granting that Satan would espy me and try to use super-dark signature eyeglasses, he cannot allow me to linger because the other two elements - love and truth - would soon neutralize all the evils in Hell, thus it would be preferable to let me go as fast as possible. Third, remember that you committed suicide because of love and that love is also true love except that it was wrongly expressed and as the overused saying goes, “The means does not justify the end.” So you still have the two elements of eternal life present, an overwhelming majority. But the third element is not totally dead; you still have that flicker of hope; don’t let that very faint light burn out by default. Find that beach in Hell and continue to count the grains of sand and your mustard seed of faith alive in your heart. Satan knows that if you stay long in Hell you will infect the others and the deadly virus of hope and faith and love will spread out like wildfire and sooner or later all His allies and captive souls will die and His domain will be lost. So he would pretend not to see me and would rather let us go immediately.

Girl: Why would he pretend and not just let us go?

Boy: Because that’s his nature. He cannot accept the truth. Satan being the master of deceit has to deceive himself. And as a wily compromiser, He would rather lose one soul than lose the whole kingdom.

Girl: One final little question. So you get me out of Hell, how do you know that the gate of Heaven will be opened for me?

Boy: Triple simple!!! God is love and He cannot deny Himself. Besides, it’s not God that sent you to Hell; Satan made you do it just as he deceived Eve. Jesus is the good Shepherd; He would rather leave the ninety nine to find and save one lost sheep. The Holy Spirit, the Advocate will bear witness to the truth.

The dream suddenly ended. Morning came. They were nowhere in the beach.

The Mystery of True Love

They woke and rose up from different beds, in different rooms, at far apart buildings. They both prepared to go the offices and ran toward the bus stop coming from different directions. Suddenly their eyes met and the glow of love and feeling of having known each other enveloped them. Without uttering a single word, they clasped their hands and the boy helped the girl board the bus. They sat together on a two-seated row still holding hands in silence. They got off on the same bus stop but parted ways in opposite directions for their offices.

After office hours, the boy hurried to the bus stop but the girl was not around. The boy felt uneasy and stretched his neck looking in the direction where she walked away in the morning. Just as the bus was approaching, he saw her running towards the bus stop. He extended his hand to take her up the bus and again they traveled silently holding hands and when they got down, before they parted they faced each other holding both their hands together, their eyes full of love and joy.

Girl: Okay, I’m convinced. See you in Hell.

Boy: Sure! Wait for me, not even Hell can stop me spring you up to Heaven.

They both laughed and before they parted, said together in unison:

Boy & Girl: Let’s go home and continue our dreams.
